Gone Too Soon. Stuart Fortune Williams #Tryonnc

Stuart was a regular at class reunions. Here he is supporting his Gamecocks.

From Facebook:
Toma Neal  Just returned from Stuart’s funeral service. I didn’t get to speak to several former students, that I recognized, due to rain.
I remember this about Stuart. We were living in the valley at the time. Stuart was about 10 or 11 ye
ars old. Stuart was taking a short cut through our yard, on his way to visit his cousins Sam and Rhonda. I told Elmo I was going to ask him not to go across our yard. Elmo’s reply “do not say anything to his future quarterback”. As you know he did become a quarterback for Tryon Tigers.

And he led the team to an 8-2 record (both losses were by one point). For his efforts he was recognized at the All Sports Banquet:

Remembering Coach Neal #tryonnc

Elmo F. Neal
As most of you know by now, Coach Neal passed away early Wednesday morning. He had been in declining health for several years. It is hard to say what the impact he had on the youth of Tryon was, because the values he instilled will be helping children and grandchildren for many years to come. I made some brief comments in this piece from 2010 about the 1970 football team, but I cannot overstate what he has meant to Tryon High School.
